Soluble Crop Proteins
Isolation of wheat protein
Soluble wheat protein can be efficiently isolated from various industrial side streams. These include wheat effluent streams from gluten processing and side streams from bioethanol production from wheat. The solutions for protein isolation from wheat enable the industry to develop high-value markets within the protein food ingredients business instead of traditional feed protein applications.
Isolation of corn protein
Soluble corn protein can be efficiently isolated from corn steep liquor. The solutions for protein isolation from corn steep liquor enable the industry to develop high-value markets within the protein food ingredients business instead of traditional feed protein applications. The protein ingredient opportunity is significantly adding value to the traditional corn starch business or bioethanol business.
Isolation of soy protein
Upfront has developed a new concept for isolating fractions of soluble soy protein. This enables the industry to add a new high value product category to the traditional insoluble soy protein product.
Separation of potato protein from potato fruit juice
Upfront has licensed its solution for potato protein isolation from potato fruit juice to AVEBE/Solanic, The Netherlands. The process enables AVEBE to make bulk products as well as highly functional patatin and protease inhibitor fractions. The current scale of operation is 1000 MT protein per year and the target is to reach 10,000 MT protein per year shortly – recognised as the largest chromatography based protein factory in the world. Rhobust® EBA chromatography is recognised as a viable path for cost-effective production of protein ingredients.
Other crop options
Upfront invites industry players within the tapioca/cassava starch industry, rapeseed/canola industry and others to work with Upfront on determine the protein value from the individual process side streams.
